The shape can be specified as spherical or elongated with a straight, curved, or hosel. The top can be curved or flat, depending on your preference. The final diameter and height of the knob can be specified as well. All knobs are hand-turned and the exact final shape and dimensions may vary slightly from the requested specifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shift patterns and other designs are typically laser-etched into the knob and filled with epoxy. The epoxy can be tinted in many different colors with a glittery or solid hue. For knobs that incorporate an inlaid crest, a background of black epoxy is usually used to bed the crest, and then clear epoxy is applied on top and finished to a smooth curved finish. Gloss and satin are usually specified. Other finishes, including oil and wax, are available for high-oil content woods such as ebony. Most knobs are clear-coated to show off the wood’s natural color, but we can also tint or stain the wood in a wide variety of colors to match or contrast with your car’s exterior or interior colors. We stock nearly all of General Finishes’ wood stains, dye stains, and gel stains.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Most knobs are replacing stock knobs that are press-fit onto round shift levers. Our standard method uses friction by drilling the mounting hole a fraction oversize and using a turn or two of painters tape on the lever until a snug fit is achieved. We can add a threaded stud or insert to the knob for shift levers that use that method. We have developed a method that allows the knob to be attached to a flat sided lever, such as on a 944.
